How I Curl My Hair + What I Use

Hey guys! This is a fun post I've been itching to write because it's literally been life changing.  Here's the backstory: I, for the life of me, could never curl my hair growing up.  In high school, I used to wake up super early to attempt to curl my hair, and even then, I'm not sure what hair style I actually left with.  It wasn't until I learned how to flip my hair out with a hair straightener that curled hair finally became a thing in my life!  The issue here is I never learned how to curl my hair with an actual curling iron and up until a few months ago, I was still super clueless haha.  In between, I experimented with curling wands and that definitely helped, but as my hair grew, I soon realized I needed a larger size wand for a fuller look and tools to boost my hair.

Recently, I got to try Leyla Milani products and you guys I'm hooked.  Let's start with my new brushes!  This sounds awful, but I'm not good at brushing my hair at all.  I give it a brush in the morning and that's about it.  The Miracle Brush changed this for me because now all I want to do is detangle my locks.  I have pretty long hair right now and brushing more than once is an absolute must!  Not to mention, the duo bristles really work to keep my hair in place as a whole.  The other styling tool I tried is the Big Tease Comb.  I believe I am the last girl on earth that has learned how to tease her hair and that's okay - I'm just happy to be on board!  In the past, I used extensions to create a fuller mane, but using this comb and learning how to tease my hair has been such a journey haha.

Finally, and most importantly, I used Leyla Milani's Triple Threat Curling Iron and I don't know how else I will ever curl my hair again.  To start, this curling iron comes with three different size wands (0.75 inch, 1 inch and 1.25 inch) that are all interchangeable.  I usually always have long hair, but definitely have one huge cut like every other year.  When I cut my hair, I can't generally use a larger sized wand the way I would with longer hair.  This is what I love about this curling iron!  I basically have one curling iron for three different phases of hair haha.  Now that I have super long hair, I've been having so much fun playing around with each wand size, but I think my absolute favorite has to be the 1.25 inch option.

Anyway, so now that we've covered my new hair tools and products, I just wanted to quickly go over how I curl my hair these days.  It's super simple, fast and my way of doing my hair in about 15 minutes flat.  Let's do this!

1. I start with brushing out my hair and then making my part. For curled hair, I usually like to do a side part because I like the 'I look like I have bangs but I don't' look - you feel me?

2. Following my part, I divide my hair in half and start with the side with less hair.
3. With my teasing brush, I take layers off of the top of my head and brush the inside of this layer down a few times.  I do this all around the top of my head and then I comb everything down, but I'm careful to not completely flatten my hair again.  Leave yourself a little poof!
4. To curl, I take large chunks of my hair and start wrapping my hair around the wand.  I usually let my hair heat up for up to ten seconds before releasing.  The direction you want to curl your hair in totally depends.  I like to switch it up and curl in or curl under, it just depends on my mood.
5. After everything is curled, I take my Miracle Brush and comb out my hair.  This is an important step for me because it releases tight curls and creates vintage waves.
6. After I've brushed out my hair, I usually touch up around to make sure everything is curled and once I like the overall look, I apply some hair spray and I'm done!

Phew!  If you would have told 15 year old me I'd one day be writing a blog post on curling hair, I would've probably just walked away from you haha.  Love how things change for the better and I'm so glad to be able to share my basic steps and the tools I use with you all!  Anyway, let me know if you guys have any product questions at all or want to learn more about my curling process.  Until then, I'll chat with everyone later!

Xo,
Melissa Victoria
