Pretty Woman Costume

08 October 2018

This is Halloween, this is Halloween!  I can't even believe I'm writing this because it doesn't even seem real that we're THIS into the year.  Super excited though because I have a lot to look forward to from now until the end of the year and into the next year.  Anyway, I received a ton of requests and questions on whether I was going to come back with another Halloween costume tutorial series and here I am, bringing it back for a second year woohoo!  So let's get into my first costume of this series, Ms. Vivian Ward of Pretty Woman.  Here's what you need and how to make this COMPLETELY with just scissors and a glue gun - you're welcome non-sewers!

 You'll Need

A blue skirt - I purchased mine from the Goodwill for $3.99
A white tank - This one is from Sears and was only $5.99
Scissors
Glue gun + glue sticks
Metal rings - I got this 2-pack of rings from Michaels for a dollar after using a coupon, score!

 How To

1. Try your tank top on and measure out where you want your crop top to start.  I would make a few dots on both sides of your waist so you know where to start your dotted sketch.
2. Lay the tank top out on a flat surface and create the shape below.  Not entirely sure what to call it, but it just basically goes out straight and then drops down into a 'U'.
3. Cut along the dotted line and you're done with your top! You can always adjust this if it fits you longer than you'd like by just cutting it shorter.

4. Try on your skirt and cut it to make it shorter.  Keep the extra fabric because you will use this to make the skirt attachment.

5. Using the 'U' shape you just cut off from the shirt, put it over the left over blue fabric from the skirt and use it as a stencil to cut out a similar  'U' shape.  The width of this doesn't matter since it'll be glued inside the skirt.  The most important part is the top 'U'.

6. Turn your skirt inside out and take one of the 'U' shapes you just cut, and place it right over the top of the waistline of the skirt.  Turn that 'U' around to be in an 'N' shape.  This piece will stick out from above the skirt to later be attached to the metal rings.  To make things easier to attach the metal ring, you can also cut out more blue fabric to mirror the 'U' shape.

7. Once you have all your pieces, simply take the original 'U' shape and glue it on to the skirt's waistline.  Repeat on the other side.

8.  So I cut out additional 'U' shapes and basically glued down the edges on top of each other first.  Then I inserted the ring in between both and glued the top part to seal it all together.

 9. To attach the crop top to the rest of the piece, simply take one 'U' shape, insert it through the top of the metal ring and glue it to the back of the tank top.  If your tank is stretchy, you might even want to pull that 'U' as far up as you can to keep it tightly secured.

10. Throw on some thigh highs, hoop earrings, toss a red sweater around your waist and Viv Ward your way through Halloween!

Hope you guys enjoyed this one!  You'll want to stay tuned to next weeks tutorial where I channel one of my favorite leading ladies.  Chat with you guys soon!
